Is your life in need of a resurrection ?

This verse has been in front of me everywhere the past few weeks!   The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. How I long to live in the reality of this truth... every moment,  every day. I love how the Message version reads...   But if God himself has taken up residence in your life, you can hardly be thinking more of yourself than of him. Anyone, of course, who has not welcomed this invisible but clearly present God, the Spirit of Christ, won’t know what we’re talking about. But for you who welcome him, in whom he dwells—even though you still experience all the limitations of sin—you yourself experience life on God’s terms. It...

Are You Blessed?

When Jesus saw his ministry drawing huge crowds, he climbed a hillside.  Those who were apprenticed to him, the committed, climbed with him.  Arriving at a quiet place, he sat down and taught his climbing companions. This is what he said: "You're blessed when you're at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule. Tired of steeping?

As I stood over the pot of tea I was brewing before heading out the door, I became impatient for the process to be done.  The water had come to a boil and I was needing to give the herbal tea bags a few more minutes of steeping.  As I kept going back and forth in my mind if it had been long enough, I suddenly was mesmerized by the little herbal tea bags being swirled about by the water roaring around the pot.  I knew that by taking the bags out too soon I would miss out on the fullness of the blackberry flavor. I wondered how many times I have struggled to remain in the pressure and removed...

Surrender

Surrender... this word has been everywhere for me the past few days. So after a week of being away from social media I saw this as I was scrolling through my twitter feed this morning. B to the BOOM! I love that! One of my biggest take aways from this past week of "retreating" was that surrender isn't a one time event in this following Christ thing... it's every day every hour every minute.

My late summer retreat (6)

I grew up hearing the word sanctification a lot. One definition is:  in its verbal form, sanctify, literally means "to set apart" for special use or purpose, that is, to make holy or sacred. Ron preached a message at Amplify about a month ago talking about this very thing. I think we struggle with this process in the church.  We are either "set apart" and have no influence in the world around us because of lack of interaction or we are in the world and living just like the world so again no influence for the Kingdom of God. Ouch!....that hurt me a little just typing it out! I had a thought this past week after reading some different passages of...
