My late summer retreat (5)

When you spend time with God He reminds you who you are... It's so easy to get busy with life and that still small voice of our creator gets muffled underneath all the other noise. The enemy loves this... he loves us to get distracted by other voices, other desires. He knows if he can keep us distracted he will keep us from fulfilling our purpose. He has no new tricks. He even tried to tempt Jesus and keep him from his purpose. He showed him other options than what God had planned for him. We have to be focused and clear on who we are and whose we are so we are not easily deceived. Let's be wise.  Let's...

my late summer retreat (4)

I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say on the Lord! Psalm 27:13,14 Whatever it is you are believing for today... don't lose heart... wait... stand... Let me explain… We can look at the life of Abraham in Genesis 12:1.   God told him to leave his homeland and to go… Go where you might ask…?  to a land I(God) will show you. This has usually been the way God has interacted in my life. An initial instruction... No clear details after that... Then I have...

Celebrations and Tears

The next few days are filled with celebrating the 11th birthday of my youngest child, the 22nd birthday of my oldest and the 81st of my Father. The first part of this week was spent visiting with my in-laws.   For years it was Ron and Susan and  "the girls".   Then our home was filled with "the boys".  Because of my girls' schedules, this family trip was the first of many I'm sure, that just included our boys.  It was a special time for them as their Granddad and father took them around town and showed them houses lived in, streets played on, and ended with grave sites of those gone before.   As I stood around the graves of people whose lives meant so much to...
