My late summer retreat (6)

I grew up hearing the word sanctification a lot. One definition is:  in its verbal form, sanctify, literally means "to set apart" for special use or purpose, that is, to make holy or sacred. Ron preached a message at Amplify about a month ago talking about this very thing. I think we struggle with this process in the church.  We are either "set apart" and have no influence in the world around us because of lack of interaction or we are in the world and living just like the world so again no influence for the Kingdom of God. Ouch!....that hurt me a little just typing it out! I had a thought this past week after reading some different passages of...

My late summer retreat (3)

I'm moved once again by this prayer of Paul that he prayed for the body of Christ.  My response is to get down on my knees before the Father, this magnificent Father who parcels out all heaven and earth. I ask him to strengthen you by his Spirit—not a brute strength but a glorious inner strength—that Christ will live in you as you open the door and invite him in.  And I ask him that with both feet planted firmly on love, you’ll be able to take in with all followers of Jesus the extravagant dimensions of Christ’s love. But it really does. The Bible starts out with examples of Selfishness.  From Lucifer's escapades to Adam and Eve in the garden. I think it's so much a part of our nature that we...

Love and Perspective

During our Servolution Series last year we were challenged with looking for ways God is wanting us to serve others.  I think most churches and Christians would say they want to share the love of Christ with others, but sadly a lot of times it doesn't go any further than the stated desire.  My husband Ron and I began asking God to show us practical ways to serve our community and praying for him to send  laborers to Amplify Church with this same heart. He is doing that and it is exciting and scary all rolled up together! During this series my friend Pam told me that she felt like God was putting it in her heart to do something with the prison. She...
