Celebrations and Tears

The next few days are filled with celebrating the 11th birthday of my youngest child, the 22nd birthday of my oldest and the 81st of my Father. The first part of this week was spent visiting with my in-laws.   For years it was Ron and Susan and  "the girls".   Then our home was filled with "the boys".  Because of my girls' schedules, this family trip was the first of many I'm sure, that just included our boys.  It was a special time for them as their Granddad and father took them around town and showed them houses lived in, streets played on, and ended with grave sites of those gone before.   As I stood around the graves of people whose lives meant so much to...

Post for Parents

(written 12/18/11) It's a Sunday morning and it feels odd because I am actually at home instead of being at church.   Almost two weeks ago my 2 oldest daughters were in a bad car accident.  In the last few days they were discharged from the hospital and are now both at home still very much in the recovery process. I saw my 21 year daughter (that actually moved to her own place this past Spring, now home for the recovery) cry for the first time yesterday when she asked if she was going to be able to go to church and I had to tell her no. A Christmas To Remember

This will definitely be a Christmas we remember... My two oldest children, Erica and Alexis and my nephew Richie were in a car accident on Tuesday, December 6th on their way to the church. My nephew was pretty banged up, but not hospitalized. Both of my girls were taken to a trauma unit and both had to have surgery due to injuries.  After days in ICU and 11 days in the hospital, both girls are now at home continuing in their healing and recovery process. Motherhood, Leadership and Brownies!

I admit it... I can tend to be a control freak. It's something I have to work on and I'm happy to say I have seen great improvements in my life in the last several years. As a mother of 5 there's ALWAYS chores to be done... dishes and clothes to be washed, dried and put away! I have to stop myself from just jumping in and cleaning up the piles that are starting to accumulate because there are more than a few others in my house that are fully capable of doing the task. And, if I'm not doing the dishes or laundry, I could put my attention to something that only I can do.  Trust me, I still...

You can have it all...just not all at once!

As a young mother I struggled at times with the statement,  "You can have it all!" Most of the time this statement was referring to you can be a wife, mother and still pursue your personal dreams.  I would go through endless cycles of trying to organize my life into making this statement a reality.   Then finally one day I heard someone say,  "You can have it all...just not all at once!"   That set me free from my constant frustration of thinking if I just tried a little harder I could do it all.  I started looking at my life more in terms of seasons and made a decision to be present and enjoy each one because as we all...
