falling down...it's all part of the process

I recently found these in a box and started thinking back to my child that wore these when learning to walk...  None of my 5 children were considered "early" walkers. I can remember as a young Mom feeling pressure and questioning what I was doing with first baby when a child her same age started walking at 8 months. It was several months before Erica too her first steps and I was reminded we are all unique and no expert opinions or timetables should be our standard for progress or success. All the scratches and worn spots reminded me of the the rough start in those shoes. A start that involved excitement and fear all rolled up together. A start...

I could have easily missed it...

I was just trying to mind my own business on this chilly Fall morning,  and just happened to glance down and see this beauty... I could have easily missed it because it was laying face down and it was obvious it had been stepped on MANY times. When I turned it over I saw it was torn and broken in places and covered in dirt and it. was. beautiful. Kind of like us huh??

the small things...

We can sometimes have these grand illusions and ideas around the "BIG STUFF"... the BIG trip, the BIG project, the BIG relationship, the BIG fancy dinner... AND YES!! all those things can bring us joy! However... I'm finding that my biggest joy seems to be found in the small. The moments that hold the greatest memories of pure joy are simple times of just living every day life... real conversations around the table,  uncontrollable laughter over some silly thing someone did or said. You know... the stuff you can' t buy because it's priceless. I always thought I liked the big. Maybe I still do... just differently. #sunlight + #miniclothespins
