S7 E31: Summer Sabbath

See this content in the original post

Hey You!! How are you? And how are you moving through this season of Summer??

We have been talking about living freely and lightly here on the pod. For those of you that are walking through this season with your, She Is Awakening Summer Journal, we are all hopefully choosing to say yes to this invitation that Jesus invites us to.

The Summer Journal is undated and is yours to move through and use as you wish but today I am starting week 4  and the weekly focus is Summer Sabbath.

And the first line starts off with a question…

Are you in need of recovery + rest? And then goes into Matthew 11 verses 28-30 and reminds us that Jesus tells us how we can experience that.

This invitation sounds lovely. And warm and inviting. But if we’re honest with ourselves, it’s easier to read about it than to enter and live it out.

The wording “I’ll show you how to take a ‘real rest’”  found in the message bible always jumps out to me. Because I think we all know there are days when we might appear to be resting and taking time off from our regular responsibilities and yet not experiencing real rest.

I think a good indicator of experiencing real rest is you are refreshed.

The rest that we are invited into involves faith.

Faith that moves us out of the realm we can only see with our eyes.

Hebrews 4 from the passion translations says

Now the promise of entering into God’s rest is still for us today. For those who believe, faith activates the promise and we experience the realm of confident rest!

God has still ordained a day for us to enter into called “Today.” As we enter into God’s faith-rest life we cease from our own works, just as God celebrates his finished works and rests in them. So then we must be eager to experience this faith-rest life so that no one falls short by following the same pattern of doubt.

In our humanity and desire to control entering this rest can be challenging.

We can have this never-ending need to feel productive…

Even in our relationship with God.

We can sometimes think the more we ‘do’ the more we will experience and bring to life

Yet, the mystery is the beautiful dance we must learn and get in rhythm with is ‘the being’

You are worthy of rest

And you are loved. Before you ever do one single thing.

Sometimes it takes a sabbath for us to remember this truth.

Sabbath is you and I not only stopping and taking a break from our normal activities and resting from “making things” it’s us resting from the need to make something of ourselves… it’s us being still with our Creator and resting in the knowledge that he is God.

So I’m going to end with that question from the Summer Journal…

Are you in need of recovery and rest?

If the answer is yes I hope you heard something today that leads you to experiencing the real rest you are searching for.

You are so loved, friend!

Have a great week and we’ll talk soon!
